As one of those anomalies of folk etymology, the term "chaise lounge" is actually an error of American invention. The proper term for the chair is "chaise longue," but Americans have been mispronouncing the word since 1850 so it has become engrained into the culture. Today, both versions are accepted, though the former is by far the more popular. In its simplest description, a chaise lounge is a couch-like seat, (usually) upholstered, but in the shape of an extended chair and with four legs.
These lounges can be used indoors or outdoors so the materials for their cushions vary. Indoor chaise lounge cushions are usually stuffed with foam and covered with common fabrics. Outdoor cushions, however, need to be more specialized in order to resist the sun, rain and other external factors. As such, they are usually made of synthetic materials like polyester, olefin, acrylic, Sunbrealla or Outdura. These materials are light-weight but durable making them ideal for outdoor cushioning. They are flexible so the cushions don't deform or wrinkle. They are also resistant to mold and mildew, stains and fading.
This piece of furniture is now having a renaissance of its own again and can be found in a lot of homes. They are no longer restricted to Hollywood movies or as the couch used in a psychiatrist office. The Chaise lounge is now finding its way back into a lot of homes. The name was changed when it became incorporated into the furniture making industry in the United States.
Similarly, the Outdoor Patio Ostrich Folding Blue chaise lounge is also perfect for any outdoor fun you plan. With its full-length and easy to fold and carry anywhere, you will surely enjoy having fun sitting on it at the beach. This lounge can be used for back tanning as well since it has a unique face opening. The Strathwood Textilene, on the other hand, is an example of the cast aluminum which is made with sling style and a backrest that can adjusted to 5 positions. This kind of lounge is lightweight. The Strathwood Falkner also has 8 adjustable positions and can be seated even by a 250-pounder. Strathwood chaise chairs are also available in designs like Strathwood Balboa Deep Seat Chaise with Cushion, the durable and charming St. Thomas Cast Aluminum, the Grand Isle, Camano All-Weather Wicker Sun, which are all commendable for durability, comfort, and beautiful designs.
