A futon compromises of two main components: the futon frame and the futon mattress. Starting from the futon frame, you should either pick between a metal or wooden frame. A wooden frame suits most purposes because even though a metal frame may be considered more reliable or cheaper in some cases, a wooden frame is more likely to complement the rest of your furniture and is also lightweight. You should also know the length and width of your futon frame, so that it suits the dimensions of your room and the place you want to put it in.
The futon sofa bed has evolved a great deal. Nowadays you can choose from a myriad of designs and styles to fit every living room configuration you can think of. Choose a thicker mattress for maximum comfort. Choose a thinner one for maximum affordability. You can also choose from a whole line of frame options. Most are made using metal and wood and these would probably most requirements. Of course wood will be lighter in weight compared to those manufactured using metal frames.
